January 2018

Our first General Business/Potluck meeting of 2018 was sparsely attended mainly because so many of our members had come down with whatever has been going around. I hope that one and all make a speedy recovery and stay healthy for the duration of the new year. We have been fortunate that, even though we had fewer members at the meeting, we had several folks step up and volunteer for those activities where help was needed. The Forsyth’s, Viergutz’s and the Ohl’s have offered to step forward to help out as replacements for the Moody’s as Rally Leaders for the Tonopah Grand Rally on March 1st to March 3rd. The Nuest’s have volunteered as Hospitality Hosts at the General Business/Poluck meetings. DuWayne Stratman has agreed to be our Publicity Chair. Susan Martin will be the Co-Chair of Entertainment and Linda Moody will be assisting as well. Sue Willcox will be working with Janis Ohl as Membership Director. As I said last month, “many hands make for light work”. Thank you all for volunteering.

The U.S. State Department issued a travel warning on Wednesday, January 10th advising Americans to avoid five states in Mexico, putting the regions at the same level of danger as war-torn Syria, Yemen and Somalia. The Level-4 “Do Not Travel” risk is the highest warning and applies to the Pacific coast states of Sinaloa, Colima, Michoacan, Guerreo and Tamaulipas located on the Pacific coast. Our Caravan planned for Rocky Point (Puerto Penasco) is many hundreds of miles from any of the Mexican states. The plan is to get an escort through Sonoyta, the only village on our way to Rocky Point. It should be a very safe trip. I am looking forward to it.

Membership Membership Report

January 2018

.

Wow, it’s January, and the holidays are finally over! Now we can enjoy the beautiful weather and all that Sun City West and Arizona have to offer. Hopefully that includes our terrific RV Club activities. Our club, which offers coffee and donuts one morning a month and dinner with entertainment one evening a month, can’t be beat! For that reason, as well as low-cost travel opportunities, we have many SCW RVers joining our club.

Renew Your Membership by January 31st so that you can be in the 2018 Membership Directory. Our Membership Drive has been going strong and more than two-thirds of our members have renewed. Those who have not renewed by the January 23rd Caravan Meeting, will receive a phone call later that week. Remember, even if you no longer have an RV, you can still be a Social Member and take part in the many non-RVing activities that the club has to offer. Our meetings in December were well attended. The annual Christmas Dinner was attended by more than 100 members, and 98 members and guests attended the Caravan Meeting on December 19th.

Our new members this month are: Jerome Roe & Jane Ameer (guests of Bill & Suzy Lane), Patti Palmer, Jim Manske & Debbie Edwards (neighbors of Clint & Toni Viergutz), and Roy & Gaye Pack. Chuck Colbeck also attended as a guest of Gary & Julie Vierra. Our many volunteers were: Cookie
& Duane Rawson (Greeters), Mike Wilcox and Tom Ohl (Renewal Table), Barb Stevens (assisted New Members), and Sue Wilcox assisted Janice as she is training to be the Membership Co-Chair. Please join the volunteers by stopping by the Membership Table to find out how you can help.

Sue Wilcox and Janice Ohl will now be sharing the Membership position. Look for one or both of us at every meeting. We are looking forward to seeing you there!

Entertainment Entertainment Report

January 2018

Hi Everybody!

Well, 2018 started out with a bang, or maybe a lot of sneezes! We had a lot of people who missed the January General Business/Potluck meeting due to illness. The fabulous “Yesteryear” gave a rousing, toe-tapping performance and Gina Hollingsworth, wife of band member Mark Hollingsworth had us all on the floor learning some line dances. There is more than the electric slide! “Yesteryear” will also be entertainers at the Tonopah Rally, so don’t forget to sign up at the next Caravan meeting on January 23rd.

Our February General Business/Potluck meeting will feature John Hodgson and his Mellow Guitar. Once again, we will have some great door prizes. Be sure to check the schedule on page 5 for all of our meeting dates. Nadene and Ted work hard on the Wheel Prints and the website so please avail yourself of all the information that is sent out. We try to keep you informed so you can plan your schedules and invite your friends to join us. We have had so much fun at our annual luaus and hoedowns, that we have decided to add another catered event this year. You will hear more from Susan Martin, Entertainment Co-director, about our luau on April 3rd, our Halloween party on October 30th, and, of course, our Christmas/Holiday party on December 4th. And to our newer members, we encourage you to volunteer at our events. It’s a great way to meet everybody and lots of fun, also.
